Wat Hanchey
Location: Wat Hanchey is located at the top of a hill, about 20km up the Mekong River from Kompong Cham town.
Time: The pagoda was constructed in the 8th century.
Characteristics: Wat Hanchey is an ancient pagoda and a fascinating temples complex from all periods of Khmer art history. It was an important center of worship during the pre-Angkor Chenla Empire period. It is a weather-worn red brick edifice with weird statues depicting mythical heroes and creatures, a huge variety of fruit, or wild and domestic animals, etc.
Attractions: Besides the pagoda, there are many other attractions crowded all around such as recent temples, stupas, pagodas and statues. The pagoda is also a place offering the outstanding view of the Mekong River.
Meanings: Wat Hanchey has been an important religious center from a number of periods, now becomes an attractive tourist destination of the area.
